Vesta symbolizes how we pay homage to that which we value, how we serve that which we hold sacred.   For those of you who know the word, seva captures this.   Juno is how we join or belong to or identify with a group or an ideal or another person or an emotion.   They're a potent combination.   Our loyalties and how we act on them.   Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion.
On 8-9 November, at the Harmonic Concordance Grand Sextile Lunar Eclipse, Vesta and Juno are only a few degrees apart, and conjoined by Venus and several other asteroids to form the "Goddess Party" that tsquares the Mars-Jupiter opposition along with Pluto and signifies the End of the Patriarchy.
Last Monday-Tuesday Vesta and Juno conjoined, initiating a whole new process around what and how we serve.   They met at 28 Scorpio, "The king of the fairies approaching his domain; the capacity in humans to recognize and to pay homage to an integrating Principle at the core of all existence" [Rudhyar p.208].   That's quite intense - asteroids about homage meeting in a degree about homage!
I just looked this degree up, so I didn't realize till now the connection, but on Tuesday evening I went to a wonderful talk by a local initiate, Eileen, about nature spirits.   A few of the relevant things she relayed to us from them...
Fairies are nature spirits but Faeries are souls - the Shining Ones (as the nature spirits like to be called) want us to recognize the difference.
Humans create by visualizing, the Shining Ones manifest the vision.   Humans do not manifest and nature spirits do not visualize.
The Shining Ones are the original inhabitants of Earth.
Nature spirits (earth spirits, water spirits, fire spirits, air spirits, ether spirits) are like children, while Devas are like the "grownups" of the realm.
Nature spirits are collective, always speaking as we."   Devas have separate identity.   Typically an entity such as a Tree or a Cat will have a Deva, who will coordinate the many nature spirits who enliven the entity.
The Shining Ones love to be recognized and given attention.   When you admire one flower (for instance), be sure to admire all of the flowers around, so all of the flower fairies feel appreciated.
Always do ceremonies that honor the Shining Ones out of doors.   They do not like ritual, they like spontaneity.   They do not like to be "summoned" or commanded.   They love to be invited.
Nature spirits are very playful, and overflowing with love.
The Shining Ones want humans to form an army of light.
Eileen brought a carafe of water sprites that wanted to go home with each of us who attended.   I have already learned so much from the one that came home with me.   She has illuminated for me differences between light and love that had not occurred to me previously.   She has demonstrated that there is a whole nother way to heal, using love rather than power.   She has opened me to several insights that will change my life.
Okay, back to the topic at hand, Vesta-Juno (as if we ever left it).   My friend Isaac George always asks the penetrating questions, and this was no exception, we have him to thank for this investigation.
Vesta and Juno, along with Ceres and Pallas, are asteroids in the belt between Mars and Jupiter.   They all travel at nearly the same speed, with orbits of about four years.   Vesta moves more quickly than Juno, but not by much.   It takes more than 20 years for Vesta to get from one Juno conjunction to the next.   Since they travel at about the same speed, it's not unusual for angles between them to repeat many times.
So the Vesta-Juno cycle is not a flash-in-the-pan thing like that silly old 2-year Venus-Mars cycle that we been talking so much about.   An obvious way to start learning about a new astrological cycle, is to look at past cycles, so let's do that.
The previous Vesta-Juno conjunction was in mid-December of 1981, at 8 of Sadge, "Within the depths of the Earth new elements are being formed; the alchemical fire which both purifies and transforms the very substance of humans' inner life" [p. 214].   Well, I can easily relate that to the shifts in my own loyalties and seva over the last 22 years.   1981 is about when I discovered that I was really a feeling person, that my thinking persona was a learned overlay.   It was about when I discovered that devoting myself to another individual did not work.
The waxing squares, when this energy would have become permanent, repeated over the span 1986-89.   That's about right, I spent approximately 1981-85 releasing my grief about no longer being able to wrap my life around another individual, and spent 1986-89 exploring other places to attach my devotions.   Notice that 1986-89 overlapped two other strong synergies that profoundly influenced those years, the Saturn-Chiron opposition of 1985-96, and the "Harmonic Convergence" of 1987-93.
The corresponding (waxing square) period of the new cycle will be 2008-10, so the new synergy that began this week, will be well established before we reach the big shifts of 2012-15.   The oppositions, or blooming, of the previous cycle spanned 1990-1995, and the blooming of the new cycle will be 2012-16, almost perfectly corresponding with the waxing Uranus-Pluto squares of 2012-15 - when the 60s become permanent.   So the Shining Ones will have thoroughly re-established their primacy on the Planet by then.   That certainly matches my experience of the 60s.
If anyone wants to go back further, the prior cycle began in early 1960 at 18 Sadge, "Children playing on the beach, their heads protected by sunbonnets; the protection society affords to as yet immature individuals as they begin to deal with the powerful energies of their unconscious nature" [p.220].   That's almost funny.   How often were we told in the 60s that we couldn't do what we were doing because "what if everybody did that"!   The theme was extended intact by two more conjunctions in 1962 at 11 Leo and 24 Virgo.
The prior cycles to that started in mid-1941 at 13 Virgo ("A powerful statesman overcomes a state of political hysteria; the focusing of the collective need for order and structural interdependence into a personage who incarnates the answer to this need" - p.158) and peaked in 1947-51; and started in late 1916 at 7 Sadge ("Cupid knocks at the door of a human heart; a stirring-up of individual longings for romantic love" - p.213) and peaked in 1925-28.
All in all these look like very telling cycles in the unfoldment of human evolution.   The cycle to follow the current one begins in 2025 at 21 Scorpio, "Obeying his conscience, a soldier resists orders; a readiness to face the results of a refusal to follow the authoritarian patterns of an aggressive society."   This synergy blooms before the 2040 Neptune-Pluto square, boding well for that potential contest between human and machine and between the people and the elite.   Bear in mind that the next period of intense Venus-Mars transformation begins in 2032 at 8 Cancer.   That'll be a very interesting era.
